Teaching

John enjoys teaching and his students reach the highest level possible, his exam results are pretty unbeatable. In the last session in summer 2015 his students gained 20 exam passes grades 1 to 8 with 8 distinctions, 6 merits and strong passes.

John is founding member and director of the Denbighshire Music Co-operative which offers instrumental and ensemble music tuition to the children of Denbighshire. There are 43 tutors and 2000 students taking lesson in schools

Adjudicating

I adjudicated for the North Wales Slow melody competition last year and other music festivals and am available for similar work.

The Rememberance Day Bugle Project

2015 heralds the start of this project where John aims eventually to supply a bugler to each of the villages around Llandyrnog to commemorate the sacrifice made by British forces in the major conflicts. 3 fine buglers commemorated the event this year in John’s home village of Llandyrnog, all students of his. This was a wonderful event and one that teaches the young player the importance of respect and working together.

Teaching Studio

John Powell runs a private teaching studio at his offices in Denbigh.

He aims to develop each student’s playing ability and musicality with care and consideration, with fun and clear learning devices at the core of his lessons.

His students ABRSM exam results are exemplary.
