John graduated with an Honours Degree and two professional performance Diplomas from the Royal Northern College Of Music – the first Euphonium player to do so. As one of the leading exponents of the Euphonium, John is dedicated to expanding the boundaries of the instrument. He has helped to refine the Euphonium and has commissioned many new works by leading British and overseas composers including Michael Finnissy and John Stevens. John has performed throughout Britain, Japan, America and Europe as well as playing with most of the country’s leading Brass Bands.
He is a founding member of Tubalaté and Silk and Steel (Euphonium, flute and Piano trio). John is a tenor tuba and bass trumpet specialist and has played with many orchestras, including the Hallé and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on its tour of the Czech Republic. John has also recorded a CD of Percy Grainger works with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. He is the conductor of both Denbighshire County and Training Bands. John has an extensive private teaching studio and also works as a brass tutor in schools. He is a founding member and Director of the Denbighshire Music Co-operative, which provides instrumental tuition to over 3000 youngsters in Denbighshire, North Wales.
